About Us

The International Association of Arson Investigators has long been a leader in fire investigator training and certification. CFITrainer.Net is the Association's latest innovation in providing training to fire investigators at all levels.

CFITrainer.Net is designed to bring the resources of the more than 8000 members of the IAAI together with highly experienced media professionals to provide up to date, high quality training directly to the fire investigators throughout the world. Using internet connected computers in the workplace or home, fire investigators will have access to programs on a wide variety of topics related to the field of fire investigations. Additionally, CFITrainer.Net will allow the IAAI to present live programs, or Webinars, on topics that are of immediate interest to the fire investigation community.

CFITrainer.Net is a comprehensive system that allows participants to register for programs, track their progress as they complete educational modules, take online evaluation tests regarding the information in the modules and document their participation. The testing and documentation features are important to fire investigators who require credit for IAAI-CFI certification. While CFITrainer.Net will assist individuals seeking IAAI-CFI certification, or recertification, the program is intended for and available to all fire investigators regardless of their level of training or certification.

The broad based training modules will assist fire investigators in meeting the topical areas contained in NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigators .

A committee of highly respected IAAI leaders has been established to oversee the program and ensure that quality and content of materials included on CFITrainer.Net is the best that is available and consistent with current treatises, including NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations .

Primary funding for CFITrainer.Net is through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and The Insurance Committee for Arson Control are partnering with the IAAI in this very important effort.

When CFITrainer.Net develops modules, the most current edition of all available resources is used. Because modules remain available for years, it is inevitable that some resources will undergo revision after a CFITrainer.Net module using those resources was released. At this time, it is not practical to go back and continually revise CFITrainer.Net modules to use new editions of all resources. However, if CFITrainer.Net determines that revisions to a referenced resource are so substantial as to materially affect what is taught in the module, CFITrainer.Net does deprecate that module and sometimes will issue a new module in that topic with updated content. The field of fire investigation and its guiding documents are constantly evolving and it is incumbent upon the fire investigator to remain up to date with the guidance in the current editions of the documents referenced in all modules on CFITrainer.Net, regardless of which editions were used in the development of the module..
